Anucha Boopachai Sri, Democrat Party candidate for Bangkok governor, led the party's campaign in the Wat Khaek area, criticizing Bangkok's bribery issue with the saying, "If the head doesn't nod, the tail doesn't wag." He pointed out that Bangkok residents fully understand who is truly independent and expressed reluctance to say much more.
On 7 June 2026, starting from 07:00 GMT+7. Mr. Anucha Boopachai Sri, candidate for Bangkok governor from the Democrat Party. Along with Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, the party leader, and party executives such as Mr. Ong-art Klamhaibul, party leader's advisor; Mr. Korn Chatikavanij, deputy party leader; Mr. Sakolthee Phattiyakul, deputy party leader; Dr. Kandej Liaopiroj, deputy party leader; Mr. Mekhin Iamsaard, deputy party leader; and Mr. Thanakorn Limwatharas, candidate for Bangkok Metropolitan Council member (BMC) for Bang Rak district, they campaigned in the Wat Khaek market area.
Before campaigning, Anucha and the party executives paid respects and prayed to the sacred deity, Goddess Sri Maha Uma Devi, at Wat Khaek. Afterwards, they continued campaigning at the Khaek market, Silom Soi 20, greeting vendors and asking about their well-being. Some residents said that although they did not live in this campaign area, they are also Bangkok residents and would vote for the Democrat Party across their entire village. During the campaign, they also met another group of BMC candidates, exchanging handshakes and greetings.
Anucha said at one point that the economy remains a key issue. From his visits, spending seems lower than usual, so if given the chance, Bangkok must support measures to improve convenience, cleanliness, and garbage collection, especially in this area, making these efforts more systematic. The Silom area has many cultural tourism sites and beautiful architecture that define Bangkok’s character. Bangkok should manage these areas, which include tourist attractions, markets, and other interesting places.
Asked about sidewalk policies, Anucha said that on main roads, they understand the need for easy pedestrian movement. However, in narrow alleys, people who use the roads should be considered, as traffic is difficult even without vendors. Organizing the area so vendors and pedestrians can coexist reflects Bangkok's street food culture—food found along walkways that foreign visitors appreciate. If districts adopt such measures, the economy can advance.
. Regarding how he would address corruption if elected governor, Anucha said it is one of their policies to ensure transparency and accountability. However, it cannot be ignored since many Bangkok officials have signaled issues to him. He added that denying corruption outright is impossible, as many have spoken about it. A simple saying is, “If the head doesn’t nod, the tail doesn’t wag.” Officials themselves have admitted such issues exist in Bangkok. Obtaining receipts as proof is impossible because those who benefit have ways to avoid it. The former administration, now out of office, has yet to reveal the truth. People can see how things stand.
“Actually, Bangkok residents fully know whether a governor is truly independent or just part of the same team. I do not want to say much more because many are just waiting for the election to see if what they know is factual. Do not underestimate the public; they understand the facts and will decide accordingly.”
At 08:30, Anucha and the party executives proceeded to campaign at the Rim Khlong Market, Soi Charoen Krung 103, supporting Dr. Sudkanueng Kaewthong, candidate for BMC member for Bang Kho Laem district.
