Deputy Minister Akhanan toured learning centers in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, and Songkhla, showing concern for teachers' living standards. He inspected teacher housing built 30 years ago and urged acceleration of repair budgets, pointing out that progress in Thai education must begin with effective budget management.
7 June 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Akhanan Kankittinan, Deputy Minister of Education, accompanied by Ms. Linthiporn Warinwatcharot, Assistant Minister of Education, Mr. Paramee Waichongcharoen, advisor to the Deputy Minister, and Mrs. Ketsadip Supawanich, Director-General of the Department of Learning Promotion, led a proactive inspection team at district-level Learning Promotion Centers (LPC) in Mueang Nakhon Si Thammarat, the Naval Commercial College, Chulabhorn Science College of Nakhon Si Thammarat, the LPC in Mueang Phatthalung, and the central LPC in Songkhla. The visit aimed to monitor operations and closely listen to local issues.
Mr. Akhanan stated the Ministry of Education is preparing to seriously improve the quality of learning at LPCs by revising their curriculum toward a “100% competency-based curriculum” and strictly controlling textbook quality for 2027. Simultaneously, they aim to concretely reduce teachers' workload to give them more time to focus on teaching effectively.
During this southern regional inspection, they also reviewed the condition of teacher housing at the LPC in Phatthalung Province and the central LPC in Songkhla Province, which fall under the Deputy Minister's supervision. Some teacher residences, built over 30 years ago, showed significant deterioration and require urgent repair. The information was reported and coordinated with central authorities to consider allocating funds for prompt maintenance.
At the conclusion, Mr. Akhanan added, “Advancement in Thai education must begin with efficient management of the existing budget, not merely requesting increases. Our problem today is not lack of funds but managing them on an ad hoc basis. Politicians fear losing votes and hesitate to address real issues, but I am ready to face the truth because I want children to come to school happily and gain knowledge. That is what Thai education must be.”
