Senator Parinya submitted a letter calling for the dissolution of the Thai-Cambodian Friendship Group and the severing of legislative-level relations, citing Phnom Penh's relentless provocations against Thai sovereignty.
On 8 June 2026 at the Parliament, Mr. Parinya Wongcherdkwan, a member of the Senate, held a press conference urging the Parliamentary Speaker to consider severing parliamentary relations between Thailand and Cambodia by completely dissolving the Thai-Cambodian Parliamentary Friendship Group. He argued that there is no longer any necessity for the Thai legislature to coordinate or engage in activities to strengthen ties or exchange information with Cambodia. This stance follows Cambodia's continual psychological warfare and disruptive actions against Thailand, despite Thailand's ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve conflicts and reduce tensions along the border.
Mr. Parinya stated that he has officially submitted a letter to the Parliamentary Speaker regarding this issue. He also called on the nine parliamentary committee members of the Thai-Cambodian Friendship Group—including government and opposition MPs as well as senators—to show spirit by resigning from their positions in the group. This would signal that the Thai Parliament no longer supports the group's existence. He emphasized that if the Speaker prioritizes the feelings and interests of the Thai people, a firm decision should be made to sever legislative ties with Cambodia. Additionally, he proposed that the Thai government consider reducing the budget allocated for educational assistance to Cambodia.
When asked whether this move contradicts the government's policy of revitalizing and strengthening ties with Cambodia, Mr. Parinya explained that the situation at the Surin provincial border has clearly worsened with increasing problems. He questioned how much longer Thai people must endure this situation and whether Cambodia has ever shown responsibility or sincerity in resolving these issues, given its continuous provocations without remorse. Therefore, Thailand has no reason to continue offering assistance. Furthermore, he suggested that Thailand elevate its efforts by urging the global community, international bodies, and ASEAN member states to participate in boycotting or sanctioning Cambodia to curb its unacceptable behavior.
