“Supamas” closes the Southern Soft Power fashion stage, pushing Thai fabrics from communities onto the global runway and inviting Thai people to wear Thai fabrics daily.
At 11:00 a.m. on 8 June 2026 at Central Hatyai shopping center in Songkhla province, Ms. Supamas Isarapakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office and overseer of the Public Relations Department, presided over the closing ceremony of the Soft Power fashion project. The project, organized by the Public Relations Department, aims to elevate Thai fabrics and community products to the international market under the government's Thai Soft Power promotion policy led by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. Also attending were Mr. Pradermchai Bunchuayluea, advisor to the Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office; Dr. Patcharin Samsiriphong, secretary to the minister; Mrs. Sudarat Lertkasem, director-general of the Public Relations Department; and Mr. Ratsat Chidchu, governor of Songkhla.
The event featured displays of works from 10 communities with over 100 products, along with a fashion show titled “THE WALK OF WOVEN IDENTITIES,” which reinterpreted local fabric patterns and wisdom into contemporary designs, demonstrating that Thai fabrics can be worn daily and generate income for communities.
Ms. Supamas said she was pleased to see the younger generation take interest in Thai identity. This event honors the royal grace of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, who revived Thai fabrics as a cultural heritage and created livelihoods nationwide. It also continues the royal aspirations of Her Majesty Queen Suthida Phatcharasutthaphimol, who wears Thai fabrics in her official duties both domestically and abroad, and celebrates Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya, who has promoted Thai fabrics globally through the “Have Fun Wearing Thai Fabrics” project and was honored as the world's first fashion and design ambassador by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
“Thai fabrics tell the story of Thai lifestyles, culture, and identity. This event provides opportunities for designers and entrepreneurs to develop Thai fabrics to meet the needs of the younger generation while preserving the nation's roots,” she said. Ms. Supamas added.
She also encouraged the public to wear Thai fabrics in their daily lives, noting that every choice to wear Thai fabrics supports Thai weavers and helps Thai Soft Power grow sustainably. She expressed gratitude to all the teams and entrepreneurs involved before officially closing the event.
