The Bhumjaithai Party spokesperson reiterated that all 13.2 million entitlements remain active within the State Welfare Card system, noting that on 11 June a committee meeting will review the criteria for the “welfare card,” particularly regarding tax deductions for supporting parents.
9 June 2026 GMT+7 Ms. Nan Boonthida Somchai, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy and Society and spokesperson for the Bhumjaithai Party, gave an interview regarding the progress of the review of the State Welfare Card criteria (commonly known as the 'welfare card'). She stated that currently, there are 13.2 million people holding the State Welfare Card. At this time, no one has had their eligibility revoked; everyone remains in the system, contrary to some reports that have circulated.
Regarding the latest Ministry of Finance criteria, some aspects need to be reconsidered. From the perspective of Bhumjaithai Party members of parliament, this program has existed for a long time and has long-standing issues—some people have cards, others do not, and feedback has been received over many years. Now, the Ministry of Finance must review eligibility criteria to ensure that the truly poor receive benefits, so new criteria will be established this round.
“Please do not be alarmed, as these are only preliminary criteria, and no one has lost their eligibility yet.”
Regarding the meeting on 11 June 2026, the Public-Private Welfare Committee for the Grassroots Economy and Society will consider whether to add further criteria. Ms. Nan explained that the criteria will be reviewed again, and decisions will be made on how to screen applicants.
In response to rumors about identity verification through district offices or government agencies, the Ministry of Interior has announced services whereby village heads, district clerks, and district chiefs will survey entitlements and confirm identities, including those not previously in the welfare card system, before submitting findings to the Ministry of Finance for consideration. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister has ordered a review of the cancellation of tax deduction criteria for parental support for welfare cardholders; this matter will also be discussed on 11 June.
When asked if only this issue would be considered, Ms. Nan said that surveys have begun in various areas. However, survey results will not be final until village community meetings take place. To pass screening, individuals must meet the criteria confirming they are truly poor. This responsibility lies with the Ministry of Interior.
