The Pheu Thai Party continues to advance its constitution amendment draft after Bhumjaithai and Kla Party withdrew their support, with adjustments made to the composition of the Constitution Drafting Assembly (CDA). The draft is expected to be resubmitted to Parliament on 7-8 July.
At 3:00 p.m. on 9 June 2026, the Pheu Thai Party held its weekly meeting of Members of Parliament (MPs), attended by Mr. Chusak Sirinil, Deputy Leader of the Pheu Thai Party, Mr. Prasert Chantraruangthong, Party Secretary-General, Mr. Wisut Chaiyanrun, Chairman of the party's MPs, and Mr. Poomthum Vechayachai, Advisor to the Pheu Thai Party Executive Committee, who chaired the joint meeting. It is expected that the discussion focused on the party’s constitution amendment draft, particularly on revising the composition of the Constitution Drafting Assembly (CDA).
Later, at 4:20 p.m., Mr. Prasert and Mr. Poomthum held a press conference, stating that the Pheu Thai Party remains committed to submitting the constitution amendment draft. The meeting assessed the situation unanimously that, after Bhumjaithai and Kla parties withdrew their support from Pheu Thai’s draft, the majority of parliamentary members would likely share the same view. Politically, this means the Pheu Thai draft may fail to gain approval from the parliamentary session at the first reading.
Mr. Prasert added, the Pheu Thai Party therefore resolved to revise the original draft by adjusting the composition of the CDA, drawing from the 1997 constitution’s approach and previous constitution amendment commission opinions. The aim is for the CDA to be more closely connected to the people, uphold democratic principles, and increase the chances of parliamentary approval, allowing further consideration at the committee stage.
Regarding the revised constitution draft content, a detailed announcement will be made once the amendments are complete. After finalizing the draft, the party will seek additional parliamentary support by publicly presenting the amendment and inviting members to sign on. It is expected that the draft will be completed by the end of June and submitted to the parliamentary session on 7-8 July.
