Anutin denies having talks with Hun Manet after photos of a handshake were leaked, telling the media, "If no handshake, then what else would there be to check?" He stressed that Thailand has never violated anyone's sovereignty and will not allow anyone to encroach.
At 16:18 on 9 June 2026 at the Fairmont Hanoi Hotel in Hanoi, Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister of Thailand, spoke about Cambodian media presenting images of a handshake with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet during the Vietnam visit. He said, "If no handshake, then what else would there be to check?" Before the leaders' meeting, there was a waiting room before they walked onto the stage. Whoever came in, we had to shake hands and greet them. Regardless of any issues, we must show respect as leaders of our respective countries. We have no problems. What happened today did not involve any bilateral talks or political discussions." He personally believes both countries understand this is not the time to talk, as there are issues each country must resolve before bringing matters to the negotiation table. Regarding Cambodian media reporting that Hun Sen, President of Cambodia's Senate, called to reclaim territory either through negotiation or force, Anutin stated, "I affirm Thailand has never invaded or infringed on the sovereignty of other countries. Thailand stands firm that our sovereignty will not be violated or encroached upon by anyone. Our actions to protect sovereignty are very clear. I believe those considering encroachment or using force against Thailand should think carefully." When asked if this was a threat, Anutin jokingly replied, "I wouldn't dare."
