The Minister of Social Development and Human Security visited Bang Lamung to promote a major project, "Housing for Thai Seniors," aiming to accommodate several thousand households.
On 10 June 2026, Mr. Nikorn Somglang, Minister of Social Development and Human Security, accompanied by executives from the ministry and the National Housing Authority, traveled to inspect and discuss development plans for an integrated senior living center (Senior Complex) in Bang Lamung district, Chonburi province.
Mr. Nikorn revealed that this land plot has long been planned for senior housing development, but past changes in project format prevented progress. He recognized the site’s high potential and suitability for a truly integrated senior living center. Consequently, he issued four urgent directives: the Ministry’s Office of the Permanent Secretary must coordinate with the Treasury Department to finalize land boundaries and usage promptly; the Department of Older Persons should collaborate with the National Housing Authority to study current housing needs of the aging society; the National Housing Authority should quickly develop project models under the “Housing for Thai Seniors Senior Complex” concept for Cabinet approval as soon as possible; and the design must fully comply with Universal Design principles to serve as a prototype model for private sector adaptation and further development.
Mr. Nikorn added that Thailand is rapidly becoming an aging society, so the Ministry must lead by example in preparedness and actively engage associations, foundations, and the private sector to help build an inclusive, age-friendly community.
“If this project succeeds, it will provide quality housing for thousands of elderly households, enabling Thais to access good homes in suitable locations at affordable prices. Housing is a fundamental foundation for life that promotes improvement in other aspects of quality of life,” Mr. Nikorn concluded.
