Constitutional Court Orders to Await Expert Opinions and Further Study on Barcode and QR Code Voting Ballots, Not Secret Voting

No progress yet. The Constitutional Court has ordered to await expert witness opinions and further study results regarding the barcode and QR code on the February 8, 2026, general election ballots, which were not conducted in secret.

On 10 June 2026 GMT+7, the Constitutional Court considered petitions filed by the Ombudsman, comprising 22 complaints requesting the court to review and provide opinions under Section 213 of the Constitution. The cases concern the Election Commission and related parties' conduct of the general election for members of the House of Representatives on 8 February 2026 GMT+7, where ballots were designed and printed with barcodes and QR codes. It is believed these codes could identify and verify voter identities and vote results, thereby violating the secrecy of the ballot. The act is alleged to contravene Sections 4, 25, 32, 34, 50(7), 83 paragraph two, 85, 95, and 224 of the Constitution.

The court decided to await expert witness testimony, witness statements, opinions, and documentary evidence from relevant agencies. For the benefit of the proceedings, the Constitutional Court Office was tasked with conducting further studies and submitting additional information to the court.
