Parliamentary Sports Committee Thanks JAS for Purchasing 2026 World Cup Rights, Calls for Free Access for Thai Viewers

The Parliamentary Sports Committee thanks JAS for acquiring the broadcasting rights to the 2026 World Cup and calls for opportunities for Thai people to watch key matches on free television channels.

At 10:30 a.m. on 11 June 2026, the Parliamentary Sports Committee, led by Mr. Jakphan Piyapornpaiboon, Member of Parliament for Prachuap Khiri Khan from the Kla Party and chairman of the committee, together with Mr. Watcharaphol Tomornsak, a party-list MP from the Pheu Thai Party and deputy chairman, along with other committee members, held a press conference to announce that it was a positive development that yesterday (10 June) a deal was closed to acquire the rights to broadcast the 2026 World Cup football tournament. In Thailand, we were the last nation to secure these rights.

The Parliamentary Sports Committee, representing athletes and all Thai people, would like to express gratitude to Jasmine International Public Company Limited or JAS, for purchasing the rights. However, there is a request that JAS allow the public to watch approximately 50% of the World Cup matches for free on free-to-air television. It is understood that this investment is substantial and a business operation, but the request is for JAS to allocate airtime for the opening match, key matches, the final, and as many other matches as possible so that citizens, children, and youth who cannot access the rights can have the chance to watch live broadcasts, see the World Cup as an idol, and pursue their dreams. Most importantly, this could inspire Thai football to reach the World Cup level, considering that not everyone in our country is wealthy.
