Nattapong, a People's Party MP, challenged Bangkok authorities regarding the On Nut waste plant, which has caused residents distress for four years but was fined for only four days, totaling 48,000 baht. He criticized the penalties as unreasonable, favoring private interests and neglecting the problem's resolution.
11 June 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Nattapong Prempoolsawasdee, Member of Parliament for Bangkok's 21st district from the People's Party, posted viaFacebookon the issue of the On Nut waste disposal plant which has continuously disturbed residents with foul odors for several years. He stated that all parties agree that penalties for offenders must be reasonable. In this case, clear communication from both Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and affected residents indicated that some waste plants did not comply with contracts and failed to make improvements as notified by BMA. However, when it came to calculating fines, contradictory facts emerged that do not align with the actual situation.
Mr. Nattapong further said, considering the four years residents have endured the impact, the private company was fined for only four days, at a rate of 12,000 baht per day, totaling just 48,000 baht. He noted that he had raised this concern during a press conference last month, stating that the figure is unreasonable compared to the severe hardship experienced by residents. To date, society has not received a clear explanation as to why fines were imposed for only four days, covering violations in June 2022 alone. This raises questions about whether the company has fully complied with the contract without fault since then.
In reality, the 48,000 baht fine, when compared to the substantial revenue the company earns from its operations, is unlikely to have any impact or serve as motivation for the company to resolve the issue. Therefore, he aims to ensure all penalties are proportionate to the violations to prevent residents from suffering and to protect public interest from further harm caused by any private operator. The ultimate goal of this scrutiny and questioning is to achieve a concrete and definitive resolution to the On Nut waste problem, which he has consistently communicated and advocated alongside the community for many years.
