Election Commission Denies Allegations of Allowing Senate Candidate Collusion, Vows Swift Case Review

The Election Commission (EC) refutes claims concerning reserve Senate candidates, denying knowledge of or allowance of collusion on the national Senate election day, and affirms it will expedite case consideration promptly.

On 11 June 2026 at 13:30 GMT+7, the Election Commission issued a statement addressing claims made by Mr. Akarawat Pongthanachalitkul, a reserve Senate candidate, and Pol. Col. Manat Nakonsri, the election inspector for Samut Prakan Province. They alleged that the EC neglected to act on documents containing candidate numbers on the national Senate election day and allowed candidates to bring their candidate promotional materials (for the Senate's 3rd category) into national voting venues. They accused the EC of evading duties and failing to oversee the election with integrity and fairness. Additionally, the provincial election inspector warned of collusive ballots on election day. The EC states all these allegations are false and has previously clarified these issues in press releases issued three times between March and May 2025.

Furthermore, the Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases issued a verdict on 28 January 2025 dismissing the case against the EC, where the reserve Senate group had sued the commission for misconduct in official duties, violations of the Election Commission Act, the Act on the Acquisition of Senators, and the Anti-Corruption Act related to these allegations.

In addition, the Election Commission stated that regarding complaints about the Senate election of a similar nature, it will expedite the review process to conclude the matter promptly.
