On 11 June 2026, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, accompanied by his wife, attended a reception celebrating the National Day of the Russian Federation at the Grand Ballroom of the Shangri-La Hotel. The event was hosted by H.E. Mr. Evgeny Tomikhin, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Thailand, and was attended by over 700 people including diplomats, government representatives, and private sector delegates.
Lalida Pertwivatana, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the Prime Minister congratulated and praised the strong relations between Thailand and Russia, which have lasted more than a century since King Chulalongkorn's visit to Saint Petersburg in 1897. He also expressed pleasure that the Joint Commission on Thailand-Russia bilateral cooperation (JC) will meet this year to advance mutual interests.
Furthermore, Anutin disclosed that on the multilateral cooperation front, he is scheduled to attend the upcoming ASEAN-Russia Summit in Kazan, Russian Federation, next week. This summit will serve as a key platform to strengthen practical cooperation between Russia and ASEAN.
“Thailand-Russia relations have continuously developed based on trust. Next year marks the 130th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations. Both countries are preparing activities and high-level exchanges to celebrate this important milestone,” the Prime Minister said.
At the conclusion of the event, the Prime Minister wished prosperity for Russia and its people, joined a commemorative photo with the Ambassador, Cabinet members, and met with diplomats to reinforce good relations before returning home after completing his duties.
