The government warns Thai football fans to beware of scammers exploiting the 2026 World Cup buzz by deceiving them with online gambling, selling fake tickets, and sending unauthorized live streaming links, emphasizing the “4 No's” to stay alert and avoid losing money.
On 12 June 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Ploytale Laksamee Sangchan, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, stated that as global interest in the 2026 World Cup grows, the government urges citizens to be extra cautious. They have detected scammers using the event's popularity to deceive people via online media, including enticing them into online gambling, selling fake match tickets and travel packages, and distributing live stream links or prize activities that conceal malware designed to steal personal and financial information.
Meanwhile, the government is intensifying its monitoring and blocking of illegal online channels. The Online Crime Suppression Center (AOC), hotline 1441, and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DES) are aggressively cracking down on online gambling networks and fraudulent platforms. In May 2026 alone, they successfully blocked 78,796 illegal gambling URLs to disrupt cybercrime and reduce the risk of citizens falling victim.
The government urges the public to follow the “4 No's”: do not click suspicious links, do not believe unverified sources, do not rush into decisions, and do not transfer money without verification. Always check information from trustworthy sources before conducting any transactions. If any suspicious or irregular activity is detected or if fraud is suspected, report it immediately to relevant authorities to promptly prevent further damage.
“The World Cup should be a time of joy and sports enthusiasm. The government encourages everyone to verify information carefully. At the same time, it will continue proactive technology crime suppression, block fraudulent channels, and regularly disseminate warnings to build public resilience. This will help citizens recognize scammers' tricks and safely enjoy following the 2026 World Cup.”
