
The Prime Minister met with the German Ambassador before his departure, reaffirming the 164-year friendship and the ongoing push to advance the Thailand–EU Free Trade Agreement and Thailand's membership in the OECD to build on shared economic opportunities and cooperation.
At 09:30 on 12 June 2026, at the reception room on the 2nd floor of the Thai Khu Fah Building, Government House, H.E. Mr. Ernst Wolfgang Reichel, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul to bid farewell on the occasion of his departure from the post. After the meeting, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, shared the key points as follows.
The Prime Minister warmly welcomed the German Ambassador and expressed gratitude for his important role in promoting the constructive relationship and cooperation between Thailand and Germany throughout his tenure. The discussion was conducted in a warm and friendly atmosphere, reflecting the strong friendship and close ties developed during their collaboration.
The Prime Minister praised the Ambassador's dedication to advancing cooperation across various dimensions and emphasized the strong and long-standing diplomatic relationship between Thailand and Germany, which marks its 164th anniversary this year. This relationship is founded on friendship, trust, and mutual understanding among governments, businesses, and citizens of both nations.
On this occasion, both parties exchanged views on key cooperation issues as follows:
1. Thailand–EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA): The Prime Minister mentioned his recent visit to the French Republic at the end of last month, during which he had the opportunity to meet with European private sector representatives and hear investors' perspectives. He reaffirmed the Thai government's commitment to expedite the conclusion of the Thailand–EU FTA negotiations in a concrete and timely manner.
Both parties agreed that the agreement will be a crucial mechanism to promote trade, investment, and economic connectivity between Thailand and the European Union in the long term. It will also open new business opportunities and deepen economic cooperation between Thailand and Germany.
2. OECD Membership: The Prime Minister reaffirmed Thailand's commitment to joining the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), reflecting the country's intention to elevate development standards, good governance, and integration with the global economy. He noted that OECD membership would enhance investor confidence, boost competitiveness, and support long-term national development.
At the end of the discussion, the Prime Minister thanked the German Ambassador for his friendship and excellent cooperation throughout his tenure in Thailand. He expressed confidence that the strong foundation of collaboration built by both sides would further strengthen and advance Thai-German relations for the mutual benefit of the peoples of both countries.
