Deputy Minister of Interior Oversees Shelter Center in Ban Tat Kloi, Monitoring Annual Flood Response

Deputy Minister of Interior Je Seth Thaiset and the Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation monitored the establishment of a shelter center in Ban Tat Kloi, Lom Kao district, Phetchabun province, to train the community in strengthening their flood response readiness amid annual recurring incidents.

On 13 June 2026 at Wat Noen Sawang in Tat Kloi Subdistrict, Lom Kao district, Phetchabun province, Mr. Je Seth Thaiset, Deputy Minister of Interior, accompanied by Mr. Theerapat Kachamat, Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, and other executives, observed the temporary shelter establishment drill. This was part of disaster prevention and mitigation training focused on flooding in Phetchabun, specifically in Ban Tat Kloi, Lom Kao district. The exercise emphasized community-based disaster risk management (CBDRM) to build strong local capacity to handle disasters.

The drill simulated continuous heavy rainfall causing flash floods and landslides. Residents applied community-based management principles to support each other with resilience within the community.

Before government assistance arrived, warnings were issued, and people were evacuated according to the community’s contingency plan, prioritizing vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, disabled persons, and patients. Transportation support was integrated from both local residents and government agencies to relocate people to temporary shelters. The community itself planned and managed the process. Over 250 residents from Village 1, Ban Wang Khon, and Village 8, Ban Wang Muang, participated in the drill.

Ban Wang Khon and Ban Wang Muang are areas regularly affected by floods every year, requiring continuous community preparedness. This drill applied lessons learned from past real events to ensure residents can respond correctly when actual incidents occur.

Mr. Je Seth and Mr. Theerapat also met with and encouraged participants, stressing the importance of building resilient communities as a key to reducing disaster risks. This approach enables people to safely and sustainably cope with disaster situations.
