The government is preparing to support the aging society. The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security is rapidly developing the “Senior Complex,” a comprehensive housing model for elderly Thais that highlights quality homes, prime locations, and affordable prices on valuable land in Chonburi Province.
14 June 2026 GMT+7 Lieutenant Colonel Phatdarasmi Thongsaluaykorn, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the government is moving forward concretely to prepare for an aging society by having the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security accelerate the development of the “Senior Complex” or “comprehensive elderly housing” to create quality housing options for the elderly in suitable locations at accessible prices, equipped with facilities and services that align with the lifestyle of senior citizens.
Mr. Nikorn Somklang, Minister of Social Development and Human Security, along with ministry executives and the National Housing Authority, visited Bang Lamung District in Chonburi Province to assess the potential development area planned as the country's model Senior Complex to accommodate the rapidly expanding aging society.
The deputy government spokesperson further stated that the Minister of Social Development has instructed relevant agencies to promptly clarify land use guidelines, study future housing needs of the elderly, and draft development plans for the “Senior Complex” housing to be submitted to the Cabinet for consideration as soon as possible.
Additionally, the project design will fully apply Universal Design principles to ensure the elderly, disabled, and all citizens can use the space conveniently and safely. The initiative aims to elevate the project as a prototype for elderly housing development that the private sector can further expand in the future. It is expected that upon successful completion, the project will meet the quality housing needs of thousands more elderly households.
