Prime Minister to Fly to ASEAN-Russia Summit, Seizing Investment Opportunities and Opening New Markets

Prime Minister Anutin is scheduled to fly to Kazan after the Cabinet meeting, using the ASEAN-Russia forum to expand trade and investment opportunities, advance economic diplomacy, open new markets, enhance energy security, and promote opportunities for Thai businesses.

15 June 2026 GMT+7 Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, revealed that Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul is scheduled to attend the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit (Special ASEAN-Russia Summit) from 17 to 18 June 2026 in Kazan, Russian Federation. The forum aims to expand economic, trade, investment, and energy cooperation opportunities to create tangible benefits for Thailand and its people. The Prime Minister will depart Thailand on the afternoon of Tuesday, 16 June 2026, following the conclusion of the Cabinet meeting.

The government spokesperson added that the Prime Minister emphasizes using international forums as tools to create economic opportunities for the country. On this trip, he will participate in the leaders’ summit, engage with ASEAN-Russian private sectors, meet ASEAN member state leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, and leading business representatives to promote cooperation that can develop into future trade, investment, and economic partnerships.

“The Prime Minister has instructed all relevant agencies that participation in international forums must produce tangible results for the country. It is not enough to simply attend meetings; these forums must open new markets, create opportunities for Thai entrepreneurs, attract investment, and enhance the country’s long-term competitiveness,” he said.

With global economic and geopolitical volatility, Thailand needs to broaden cooperation with trading partners and economic allies to ensure stability and reduce external risks. Russia plays a significant role in global supply chains, especially in energy, fertilizers, and essential raw materials for manufacturing, while Thailand has strengths in agricultural products, food, and processed industries. This potential can be leveraged to expand cooperation and increase trade value between the two countries.

Regarding this trip, it is a key opportunity to create new channels for Thai businesses, increase export opportunities to promising markets, extend cooperation in energy and food security, and attract investment beneficial to Thailand’s economic development. This will help generate jobs, income, and improve the quality of life for the population over the long term.

Simultaneously, Thailand will use this platform to promote cooperation in science, technology, and innovation, as well as link businesses and communities between ASEAN and Russia. This will enhance Thailand’s competitiveness and create new economic opportunities in the future. The ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit is held to mark the 35th anniversary of ASEAN-Russia relations and represents an important forum for Thailand to advance its economic diplomacy policy, seek new opportunities, and maximize benefits for the country and its people.
