Anutin Says DE Explains TH AI Passport Issue, Confident Strict System Will Collapse If Laws Are Broken

Anutin said the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE) has explained the TH AI Passport issue. He affirmed the government must act honestly and follow procedures. He believes the strict system will collapse by itself if laws are violated, and thus prevent wrongdoing from succeeding.

At 12:45 p.m. on 15 June 2026 at the Government House, Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul was interviewed regarding opposition criticism of the TH AI Passport project. He said, “We must grow with the technological world. Today, anyone lacking access to AI will fall behind. People’s lives now require all components to keep us competitive and ready. Thailand has technological security, especially in communication technologies, ranking among the world’s leaders. We have programmers and system developers creating our own technology without relying on foreign tech, although we adopt platforms and knowledge from abroad to develop and then distribute this advanced technology to the people.”

He deferred the explanation entirely to the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society.

When asked again about criticism focusing not on the concept but on the TOR involving people close to the Chidchob family, Anutin said the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE) is responsible and has already explained the matter clearly. Therefore, the government’s concern is to ensure actions are honest and follow prescribed procedures. If so, those carrying out the work are fulfilling their assigned duties under the government's policies. If they do not, they will face problems with their performance and evaluations.

When asked if he was confident the project would have no insider dealings or lack transparency, Anutin replied, “This government does not know the term ‘insider dealings.’ We work for the people. I do not tolerate these things because they do not improve our lives or bring benefits or money. I live modestly, as you all see. I don’t engage in the 60/40 scheme because I believe I should not deny others their rights. I live an ordinary life, whether as a minister, an ordinary citizen, or the Prime Minister. My life has not changed at all. Therefore, I have no reason to fear or favor anyone committing corruption, especially in this government I lead.”

He cautioned reporters not to ask leading questions.

When asked if he was always open to scrutiny, Anutin responded, "" “You must not ask leading questions. The Prime Minister and all cabinet members in this government detest all forms of corruption and illegal acts—not only in procurement, appointments, and transfers but also in crime suppression, drug enforcement, and all law violations. If corruption occurs, we act fully. I emphasize that we are enemies of all corruption, and everything follows due process. If something is improper, the system will cause it to fail on its own. If it is illegal, the system will not allow it to pass. But certainly, the people are waiting for AI. AI must respond immediately—not ask three questions and then slowly delay the answer. When working, time cannot wait. Ask, and it must answer promptly.”
