"Je Seth," Deputy Minister of Interior, chaired the RSOC meeting to finalize a road safety enhancement plan. He emphasized the Marrakech Declaration with a target to reduce road fatalities by 50% and announced preparations for the 17th National Road Safety Academic Forum this November.
At 1:30 p.m. on 15 June 2026, Mr. Je Seth Thaiset, Deputy Minister of Interior, chaired the first 2026 meeting of the Road Safety Operations Center Committee. Attendees included Mr. Chaiwat Chuenkosum, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior and head of the Disaster Management and Urban Development group; Mr. Theeraphat Kachamat, Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation; committee members; executives from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation; partner agencies; and related officials. The meeting was held in Conference Room DPM1 on the 5th floor of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation in Bangkok.
Mr. Je Seth expressed gratitude to all agencies and sectors involved in the 2026 Songkran festival efforts to prevent road accidents, which significantly reduced accident statistics and fatalities. He urged all sectors to continue integrating and working closely together to ensure greater and sustainable road safety for the public.
"Today's meeting, the first RSOC Committee session of 2026, addressed key issues requiring subcommittee mechanisms to integrate with relevant agencies and all sectors to resolve road accident problems. Two main topics were discussed: the approach to driving the Marrakech Declaration forward, as proposed by the safety management committee, which was approved by the RSOC Committee and assigned to the eight subcommittees for implementation alongside related agencies."
Mr. Je Seth further mentioned the draft RSOC order to appoint subcommittees for organizing the 17th National Road Safety Academic Seminar titled 'Unlocking Safe Roads for Safe Cities,' scheduled for 19-20 November 2026 at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani, Pak Kret District, Nonthaburi Province. The RSOC, together with the Road Safety Academic Center and road safety network partners under the Ministry of Interior and the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, will present academic awards to partners working in road safety and promote best practices at the local level.
The meeting also reviewed and considered key issues such as proposed measures to prevent and reduce road accidents, drawing lessons from the past festival period. It was found that primary causes of accidents were speeding, failure to slow at intersections or U-turn points, and water play outside controlled zones (Zoning). Priority issues for 2027 include speed limits in community areas, improvement or closure of dangerous ground-level U-turns, establishment of community checkpoints, and clear scheduling of water play activities.
Preparations for the United Nations High-Level Meeting on Road Safety, scheduled for 20-21 July 2026 in New York City, were discussed to advance the goal of reducing road traffic deaths by 50% by 2030. The implementation of the 2022-2027 Road Safety Master Plan will focus on three main areas in 2026-2027: law enforcement, driver licensing systems (education), and road infrastructure (environment).
"I thank the committee members, many agencies, experts, and everyone who provided suggestions, observations, and recommendations. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation will compile this information to guide collaborative efforts toward elevating road safety."
