Government Intensifies Drug Crackdown from Source Seizes Over 272 Million Methamphetamine Pills and Freezes Assets Exceeding 10 Billion Baht

The government is intensifying its drug crackdown, aiming to intercept drugs at the source. In two months, it has dismantled drug trafficking networks beyond the target, seizing over 272 million methamphetamine pills and freezing assets exceeding 10 billion baht.

On 16 June 2026, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that over the past two months (1 April – 10 June 2026), the government has aggressively pursued nationwide proactive drug suppression. It successfully intercepted large quantities of drugs, dismantled major trafficking networks exceeding targets, and concretely cut off the financial channels of drug trafficking operations. This reflects the success of the continuous and comprehensive "Intercept at Source, Suppress Networks, Cut Drug Financing" campaign.

The Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) arrested suspects in a total of 59,609 drug cases, involving 61,685 individuals. They seized 272.79 million methamphetamine pills, 17,729.83 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine ('ice'), 276.77 kilograms of heroin, and 2,639.32 kilograms of ketamine. The authorities expanded investigations to 64 major trafficking networks, surpassing the goal of 18 networks, and froze assets totaling 10,215.16 million baht, achieving 102.15% of the target. This demonstrates tangible success in dismantling the financial base and capabilities of drug trafficking networks.

Furthermore, drug interdiction along the borders continues to yield results, thanks to integrated surveillance and strict control of border areas by land, water, and natural routes. Most recently, on 15 June 2026, the Navy, through the Riverine Peacekeeping Unit (RPU) in Chiang Rai, seized an additional 6,024,000 methamphetamine pills in Wiang Kaen district, Chiang Rai province. This reflects the effectiveness of measures to intercept drugs at the source, close cross-border trafficking routes, and prevent massive quantities of drugs from entering communities and the country's interior.

Ms. Ratchada stated that the government will continue its drug suppression efforts, focusing on intercepting drugs at their source, dismantling major networks, cutting financial channels, and freezing offenders' assets to achieve sustainable drug problem resolution and ensure safety for people nationwide.
