
The Prime Minister and delegation have arrived in Kazan, Russia, to participate in the Special ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit, promoting cooperation in energy, food, technology, and ASEAN–Eurasia economic connectivity.
On 17 June 2026, a reporter reported that on 16 June at 20:25 local time in Kazan, Russian Federation (4 hours behind Thailand), Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, announced that Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, along with his delegation, arrived in Kazan, Russia, to attend the Special ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit from 16–19 June 2026. This summit marks the 35th anniversary of ASEAN-Russia relations, with senior representatives from the Russian Federation and the Embassy in Moscow welcoming them.
At the event, Mr. Bogdashev Igor Viktorovich, Director General of Diplomatic Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, together with Mr. Rustam Minnikhanov, Head of the Republic of Tatarstan; Mr. Vladimir Aleksandrovich Leonov, Minister of Sports of Tatarstan; Mr. Ilsur Metshin, Mayor of Kazan; and related Russian officials warmly welcomed the Prime Minister and his wife. Meanwhile, Mr. Sasivat Wongsinsawat, Ambassador to Moscow, accompanied by military attachés from the three armed forces, the commercial attaché, and embassy officials, also extended their welcome.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister and his wife received the traditional Russian welcome, where women in national dress presented bread, symbolizing friendship, sincere hospitality, abundance, and goodwill toward visitors. This reflects the cordial relations and strong ties between Thailand and Russia.
The spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister stated that this summit serves as a crucial platform to set the direction for future ASEAN-Russia cooperation. The meeting is divided into two main parts: a Plenary Session to discuss cooperation issues between countries and regions and the future direction of ASEAN-Russia relations, and a Working Lunch to exchange views on leveraging the potential of the ASEAN and Eurasian regions. Representatives from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), the ASEAN Business Advisory Council, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation also participated.
On 17 June 2026, the Prime Minister is scheduled to attend the ASEAN-Russia Business Forum, a platform for business meetings between Russia and ASEAN, followed by a Gala Dinner honoring the leaders and a cultural performance, key events preceding the Special ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit the following day.
On 18 June 2026, the Prime Minister will participate in the leaders’ group photo session, attend the Special ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit, and deliver a statement on international and regional cooperation as well as the future direction of ASEAN-Russia relations. Subsequently, he will co-sign four documents resulting from the summit.
Additionally, the Prime Minister will join a Working Lunch discussion with ASEAN leaders, Russian officials, and representatives from key regional economic organizations to exchange views on enhancing economic connectivity between ASEAN and Eurasia, while exploring new opportunities in trade, investment, energy, technology, and food security.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister is also scheduled for a bilateral meeting with the President of the Russian Federation to exchange views on promoting cooperation between Thailand and Russia in potential sectors, especially the economy, trade, investment, energy, and technology, aiming to create economic opportunities and improve the quality of life for the Thai people long term.
After completing the evening activities on the same day, the Prime Minister and delegation will return to Thailand, with an expected arrival on 19 June 2026.
