Ploytalay Explains That Lisas Move of Phuket Governor Is Not a Sham but to Solve Phukets Problems

"Ploytalay," Deputy Government Spokesperson, explained to MP "Lisa" that the transfer of the Phuket governor aims to improve the handling of problems in Phuket. She emphasized that it is not a sham performance or a transfer culture.

On 17 June 2026, Ms. Ploytalay Laksameesangchan, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, responded to Ms. Phakamon Nun-anun, a party-list MP from the People’s Party, who had commented on the Phuket governor's transfer. She said, "Today, don’t just do transfers back and forth as if it’s punishment that no one believes. This kind of culture should end. If you’re serious, root it out and tell the public clearly who is at fault and who is behind it. If the Prime Minister is sincere with the people, make it clear."

Ms. Ploytalay emphasized that this transfer is for the benefit of government service, to proceed smoothly and to address Phuket’s problems as directed by the Prime Minister and government policies, including cracking down on influential figures and other long-standing local issues, to resolve them more effectively and quickly.

"As someone from Phuket, I understand the local issues. Successful problem-solving requires integrated cooperation in driving civil servant operations, which is crucial—especially the governor's role, as the chief executive and main commander in addressing problems. I know Governor Nirat Pongsitthaworn, who is knowledgeable and has served the area well. However, Phuket still has many unresolved problems the Prime Minister and government want addressed quickly, so it is necessary to bring new personnel to the area to offer fresh perspectives and achieve more tangible results."

"This transfer is not about personal gain but to enhance the performance of duties in Phuket, aiming for the quickest resolution of problems. It is not a sham or a transfer culture for benefits, as Ms. Phakamon assumes. I believe Governor Nirat understands the reasons for this transfer. Wherever he is, he can work for the benefit of the people. Being a civil servant is an honorable profession; regardless of position or province, all civil servants must work to serve the nation and people, prioritizing the public interest."
