Relatives of Two Huai Khwang Motorcycle Taxi Drivers Appeal to Police Commission, Fear Lack of Justice

Relatives of two Huai Khwang motorcycle taxi drivers who died after being shot by a Border Patrol Police officer have rushed to file complaints, fearing they will not receive justice. The Police Commission has assured fairness and is expected to take up the case on 2 July.

At 12:00 on 17 June 2026, Mr. Watcharapong Kuwijitsuwan, Member of Parliament for Saraburi from the Bhumjaithai Party and Chairman of the Police Commission of the House of Representatives, received a complaint at the Parliament building from relatives of motorcycle taxi drivers who assaulted a Border Patrol Police officer. The officer then shot and killed two drivers in Huai Khwang district. The relatives expressed concern they might not get justice since the perpetrator is a police officer.

Mr. Watcharapong stated that two people died in this incident. He referenced Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's policy on carrying firearms in public places. Even though the suspect is a Border Patrol Police officer, the Commission assures impartiality and fairness, emphasizing public safety as the top priority. The case is expected to be reviewed by the Commission on 2 July. Preliminary information suggests the suspect clearly committed an offense. Police have initially charged the suspect with excessive use of force or attempted murder. The investigation will continue under the case officer's direction.

The relatives of the deceased said they seek justice for both families, as they have faced intense social backlash and threats. When they asked who was threatening them, they were warned they might suffer further harm. They therefore appeal for fairness. The families also plan to file additional complaints with the House Committee on Law, Justice, and Human Rights.
