The Secretary-General of the Election Commission (EC) revealed that the EC is urgently investigating a clip showing Sanoek ballot collection on election day after the opposition exposed it, stating that any agency responsible for the leak must be held accountable.
On 17 Jun 2026 at 14:00 at the Centara Life Hotel, Government Complex Chaeng Watthana, Mr. Saeng Bunmee, Secretary-General of the Election Commission (EC), spoke about progress in investigating the Sanoek election rigging case amid opposition demands for disclosure after the national election ballot collection clip was revealed. He said that details in the case file cannot be disclosed until the review is complete. "That is all I can say."
"We are currently investigating whether the clip the opposition revealed originated from the EC, because there are personal data protection laws involved. If the data belongs to any agency, it must be held responsible. We are examining whether this data was in the possession of the office and how it was disclosed. The EC must consider this carefully as it may affect those involved. I emphasize that the Personal Data Protection Act has been in effect for about 2-3 years," said the Secretary-General of the EC.
Regarding progress in reviewing the Sanoek election rigging case, which has been under consideration for two weeks, Mr. Saeng said the EC meets every Monday for special sessions dedicated to the case. The last two meetings were full-day sessions with detailed questioning from commissioners. He declined to comment on any potential votes, saying these are matters for the Election Commissioners. He added that whether the case will be reviewed by province groups or as a whole before being submitted to court is an internal procedural matter for the EC.
