Watchara Files Complaint with NACC Against Secretary Surapong Over Transfer of Drunk Driving Director and Salary Raise

"Watchara" has filed a complaint with the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to investigate Secretary "Surapong" over the transfer of a director who caused a fatal drunk driving accident, along with increasing his position allowance to 40,000 baht, demanding his removal from office.

On 17 June 2026, Watchara Petthong, former Democrat Party MP, revealed that he had formally submitted a letter to Suchart Trakulkasemsuk, Chairman of the NACC Committee, requesting the formation of an investigative panel to examine whether Surapong Intarathaworn, Secretary of the NACC, committed misconduct, violated laws or seriously breached ethics in signing NACC Office Order No. 455/2569 regarding the transfer of a government officer.

Watchara stated that the order transferred Jarong Kraomoh, Director of the Investigation and Special Affairs Bureau, to become Director of the Special Case Inquiry Bureau. The irregularity lies in this transfer occurring after Jarong caused a fatal drunk driving accident on the night of 27 May 2026, which was widely publicized across the country with video and audio evidence, severely damaging the NACC's image in an unprecedented manner since its establishment.

Watchara continued that on 29 May 2026, only two days after the incident, Secretary Surapong issued an order promoting Jarong to a higher position within the justice administration line and raised his position allowance from 18,000 baht per month to 40,000 baht per month (an increase of 22,000 baht), sparking intense public criticism.

"There is reasonable suspicion that Surapong acted dishonestly, favored associates, lacked good governance, and committed serious ethical violations, which may constitute offenses under Sections 147 and 183 of the Anti-Corruption Act B.E. 2561. As a taxpayer, I cannot accept such behavior and thus request the NACC Committee to immediately remove Surapong from his Secretary position to uphold the rule of law," Watchara said.

Furthermore, Watchara pointed to Section 149 of the NACC Act, which clearly states that the Secretary of the NACC must be honest, impartial, and free of bias. However, Surapong exhibited the opposite behavior by publicly attacking citizens who criticized the NACC's handling of this case, calling society "sick." This conduct shows a lack of qualifications and unsuitability to remain as Secretary of the NACC.

Therefore, he urged the NACC Committee to promptly appoint an investigative panel to legally and ethically address the matter as soon as possible. Along with the complaint letter, Watchara also submitted an opinion document from a former Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice to assist the NACC Committee's consideration.
