Commotion from the Start: Two Bhumjaithai MPs Question Procedural Validity of Joint Committee Meeting on TH-AI Passport

From the outset, the joint meeting of the Budget Study Committee and the Legal Committee to investigate the “TH-AI Passport” project was disrupted. Two Bhumjaithai MPs raised objections, suggesting possible delays, questioning whether the meeting complied with procedural rules, and urging that this factual issue be clarified before proceeding with inquiries.

On 18 June 2026, reporters reported that at the Parliament building, the Committee on Budget Preparation and Monitoring of the House of Representatives, chaired by MP Rakchanok Srinok, a party-list member of the Prachachon Party, held a joint meeting with the Committee on Law, Justice and Human Rights of the House of Representatives, which is chaired by MP Rangsiman Rome, a party-list member of the Prachachon Party, concerning the progress of the “TH-AI Passport” project.

After the meeting started around 09:30 a.m., disorder arose. MP Nattawut Prasertsuwan and MP Supachai Jaisamut both from the Bhumjaithai Party, raised objections about whether this joint meeting was conducted in accordance with procedural rules and demanded that this factual issue be considered before any information inquiries were made. The delay continued until nearly 10:20 a.m., when a conclusion was reached and Mr. Patchara Anantasillpa, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, began providing information about the TH-AI Passport project.
