Phiphat Quashes Rumors of Disunity in Bhumjaithai After PM Takes Back EEC Oversight

Phiphat dismissed rumors of internal rifts within Bhumjaithai after the Prime Minister took back control of the EEC, affirming that the transition was preceded by prior discussions before handing over to the Prime Minister himself.

On 18 June 2026 GMT+7, Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, addressed the case where Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul signed an order reclaiming authority over the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) Policy Committee Office, which Phiphat had previously overseen. He explained that he had managed the EEC since the minority government period, and after the election and Anutin's return as Prime Minister, he volunteered to support the EEC's progress continuously from Anutin's first to second government.

Phiphat added that after about three to four joint meetings, infrastructure matters and pending legal issues from past governments had been fully approved by the EEC board. He then discussed this with the Prime Minister, who agreed that the key task now is to focus on attracting investors to the area. They mutually decided that the Prime Minister would personally oversee this aspect.

Additionally, as the Ministry of Transport has several large-scale projects that must be accelerated to support the EEC area, Phiphat felt it appropriate to refocus solely on the Ministry of Transport's work.

"If I try to manage both responsibilities simultaneously, neither will succeed. Importantly, I trust the Prime Minister's professionalism. Since he frequently travels abroad for meetings, this is a good opportunity for him to negotiate directly with foreign operators to invite investment in the EEC, which is currently the most crucial focus," Phiphat said.

When asked about criticism suggesting this reassignment might cause rifts within Bhumjaithai, Phiphat firmly denied it. He explained that as a subordinate to the Prime Minister and a party member, he accepts whatever benefits the nation most.

Regarding attempts to stir division or questions about his feelings after losing EEC duties, Phiphat clarified that before the order was announced, he and the Prime Minister had already discussed and agreed on it. He took this chance to clarify and ensure correct understanding, affirming that within Bhumjaithai, they communicate openly on all matters. Especially his relationship with the Prime Minister remains straightforward and transparent, so the public can be reassured.
