Plan to Propose Establishment of Ministry of Sports at Cabinet Meeting in June-July

Surachak expects to submit a draft to establish the Ministry of Sports by merging the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture to the Cabinet during June to July. He revealed that the Office of the Public Sector Development Commission is currently preparing the details of the plan.

At 14:10 on 18 June 2026 at the Government House, Surachak Pancharoenworakul, Minister of Tourism and Sports, discussed progress on the administrative reform to create a Ministry of Sports and merge tourism into the Ministry of Culture. He said the draft for establishing the ministry includes details on structure, assets, personnel, staffing, offices, and internal agencies—identifying which parts will belong where, the new agency names under the new ministry, and additional missions to be included. They will also seek feedback from relevant civil servants. The process is currently with the Office of the Public Sector Development Commission (OPDC), which will submit the draft to the Cabinet for consideration. Once approved, it will be forwarded to the House of Representatives. The draft is expected to be presented to the Cabinet between June and July.

When asked how long the entire process would take, Surachak said the OPDC's timeline, as reported, aims to complete the work by the end of this year, with implementation starting by the end of this year or early next year. The plan involves merging the tourism portfolio with the Ministry of Culture and establishing a new Ministry of Sports.
