Government Spokesperson Announces Thailand Ready to Welcome Quality Digital Investment, Managing Impacts on Water, Energy, and Communities

The government spokesperson announced that Thailand is ready to welcome quality digital investments while managing impacts on water, energy, and communities, believing the country has strengths in both location and infrastructure.

On 19 Jun 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Rachada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, revealed that current investor interest in Data Centres in Thailand shows positive signals reflecting the country's potential as a digital infrastructure hub in the region, supporting growth in Cloud, AI, e-Commerce, FinTech, and digital services increasingly needed by businesses.

Investing in Data Centres is not just about buildings or computer systems, but is a critical infrastructure for the new economy, enabling Thai businesses to access digital services faster, reducing data system delays, and enhancing the country’s long-term competitiveness.

However, the government places equal importance on site readiness and impacts on people, especially regarding water, energy, and the environment, since Data Centres require cooling systems, have high electricity demands, and may increase pressure on resources in some areas without careful planning.

“The government supports the digital economy, but growth must not affect citizens’ quality of life. Investments must meet standards, use water efficiently, and not impact consumption, agriculture, or community ecosystems,” she said. Ms. Rachada said.

The spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister stated the government’s approach is to promote quality investment by considering site suitability, water sources, power systems, energy-saving technologies, water management plans, and post-operation monitoring measures to ensure investments align with actual site potential.

The government aims for Thailand to be a destination for responsible technology investors, not merely a country accepting large volumes of investment, but one with clear environmental standards and regulatory oversight.

Ms. Rachada said Thailand’s strengths include location, digital infrastructure, personnel, and domestic demand. The government is ready to coordinate relevant agencies to support investment readiness while protecting local residents’ rights, to advance Thailand as a trusted Data Centre hub where development proceeds without compromising the country's water, energy, and environmental security.
