
Before the Bangkok governor election on Sunday, 28 June 2026, Thairath Online conducted a survey of readers via the Thairath Poll on the topic “Voices of Bangkok Residents Before Electing the Governor: Taxes, City Budget, Transparency, and the Governor You Want,” which received a record 1,467 responses.
The first question asked was"If the election were held today, who would you be likely to vote for?" The most chosen candidate was Chadchart Sittipunt, with 60.83%.
Following were Chaiwat Stawornwijit at 13.69%, Mallika Boonmitrakun Mahasuk at 11.78%, Mom Luang Korakasiwat Kasemsri at 4.32%, Anucha Boonpachaisri at 4.15%, and Pongsak Puapornpong at 1.49%.
Other candidates included Samai Lalert at 1.08%, Chanthep Sesavej at 0.91%, Prateep Watcharachokkasem at 0.75%, Pisan Kittiyaowamal at 0.17%, Phaspong Chaiwirinyawanich at 0.17%, Olan Tangtratakul at 0.17%, Somchai Charoenworakiat at 0.17%, Lallana Mongkolhasdin at 0.17%, Prayoon Krongyot at 0.08%, and Sirarat Changpetch at 0.08%.
Regarding respondents' status, 56.56% live in Bangkok and have the right to vote for the governor, 25.38% do not have voting rights, 12.52% live in Bangkok but lack voting rights, and 5.54% do not live in Bangkok but have voting rights.
On questions reflecting transparency and accountability, particularly regarding the qualities respondents would look for in candidates if the election were today,
the top priority was candidates trusted for transparency at 43.51%, followed by candidates trusted for their performance at 36.55%, and those who address future vision at 19.94%.
Similarly, on the topic of disclosing district budgets as Open Data, 61.81% strongly agreed for the sake of accountability, 35.43% agreed but emphasized that the data must be easy to understand, and 2.76% disagreed.
When asked which area their taxes should support most, 56.91% prioritized safety, lighting, and CCTV, followed by 25.60% for reducing public transport fares, and 17.49% for increasing green spaces.
These responses reflect the voices of Thairath Online readers and do not represent all eligible voters in Bangkok, nor are they a forecast of the election outcome on 28 June 2026. The emphasis was largely on transparency, accountability, candidate qualities, and budget disclosure.
The final outcome will depend on the decisions of eligible voters on election day.
