Government Regulates Medical Cannabis for One Month: Public Reports 73 Violations, Inspects Over 1,200 Cannabis Shops

The government is moving forward with regulating medical cannabis, reporting one month of results: 209 public consultation calls, 73 reports of violations, inspections of over 1,200 cannabis shops nationwide, with offenders arrested and licenses suspended.

On 20 June 2026, Ms. Ploytale Laksamee Sangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, revealed progress in law enforcement and complaint reception, as well as medical cannabis consultation services provided by the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine, Ministry of Public Health, over the past month. The aim is to control cannabis use strictly for medical purposes and to ensure maximum safety for the public and youth, enforcing medical cannabis laws to benefit the people.

Ms. Ploytale stated that the key outcomes fall into three areas: The Medical Cannabis Coordination and Information Center (Call Center) received 209 calls from the public between 1–31 May 2026, with staff able to answer and provide immediate consultation on 187 calls. The main inquiries concerned training and license stickers. Public satisfaction with the service reached 93.26%. In addition, complaints were received to prompt proactive inspections of establishments.

Meanwhile, the complaint and tip-off system via the Traffy Fondue platform, open 24/7 from 1 May to 12 June 2026, received 73 reports of violations from the public. Officials have resolved 5 cases so far and are currently addressing another 5.

Moreover, collaboration with relevant agencies has led to proactive inspections of more than 1,247 cannabis establishments nationwide. Legal measures have been continuously enforced, including arrests of offenders, license suspensions, and seizure and confiscation of numerous suspicious items.

“The government’s main policy is to support cannabis solely for medical and health economic benefits, firmly rejecting recreational cannabis legalization. The government urges the public to assist as watchdogs by reporting illegal shops via Line @traffyfondue. The public can verify locations and licenses through the MC-GIS system at cannabis-gis.dtam.moph.go.th or via the Super App ‘Mor Prom,’ which provides information on shops, cultivation sites, license expiration dates, and offers consultations through the Medical Cannabis Coordination Center hotline at 0 2257 7042 during official working hours.”
