
Baan Somdet Poll reveals Bangkok residents prefer Chadchart as governor of Bangkok and will choose BMC members from independent candidates. They want safety of life and property to be the most urgent issue addressed.
On 20 June 2026, the Baan Somdet Poll Center at Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University conducted a survey on the Bangkok governor and Bangkok Metropolitan Council election. Data was collected from 1,197 residents of Bangkok between 17 and 19 June 2026. The sample size was determined using Taro Yamane's formula, requiring 1,111 respondents for a population over 100,000 with 95% confidence and a 3% margin of error.
Assistant Professor Dr. Sing Singkajorn, Chairman of the Baan Somdet Poll Center, stated that this survey's results pertain to the Bangkok governor and council elections scheduled for 28 June 2026.
Most respondents, 76.3%, confirmed they will vote on Sunday, 28 June 2026, for governor and council members. The main factor influencing their choice of governor is the candidate themselves (85.4%), followed by the political party or group affiliation or independence (14.6%).
The top desired quality in a Bangkok governor is adherence to announced policies (19.3%), followed by diligence and dedication to work (18.4%), honesty and transparency (18%), creativity (13.4%), tangible results (13.1%), and prompt problem-solving (17.8%).
When deciding on a governor candidate, 57.5% favor independent candidates, 15.9% are undecided, 14.5% prefer party-affiliated candidates, and 12.1% choose candidates from political groups.
Regarding policies voters want the governor candidates to prioritize, the top is economic and career promotion (24.8%), followed by education and quality of life (23.5%), cleanliness and environment (23%), arts, culture, and urban development (12.3%), and safety of life and property (8%).
The most urgent problems voters want the governor to solve are safety of life and property (19.8%), corruption (18.8%), wastewater management (13.2%), solid waste management (11.9%), and footpath obstruction (10.5%).
When asked which candidate they plan to vote for as governor on 28 June 2026, Chadchart Sittipunt leads with 54.6%, followed by 11.3% who intend to abstain, 5.4% for Chaiwat Stawornwijit, 4.1% for Anucha Burapachaisri, and 3.1% for Mallika Bunmitrakul Mahasuk. Additionally, 32.7% do not plan to vote for governor and council candidates from the same party or political group.
For Bangkok Metropolitan Council members, the most desired quality is diligence and dedication to work (28.3%), followed by honesty and transparency (18.5%), adherence to announced policies (17.1%), tangible results (14.8%), creativity (12.5%), and prompt problem-solving (8.8%).
Regarding their choice for council members, 26% remain undecided, 33.3% favor independent candidates, 12.8% prefer candidates from political groups, and 27.9% support party-affiliated candidates.
On 28 June 2026, for council member selection, 39.6% plan to vote for independent candidates, 21.6% for the Democrat Party, 19.5% for the Prachachon Party, 5.3% for the Setthakit Party, and 5.1% for the Pheu Thai Party.
