Democrat Party Intensifies Campaign to Support Anucha and Four Councilor Candidates Across Districts

The Democrat Party is intensifying efforts to support “Anucha” and four councilor candidates simultaneously across four districts. “Anucha” promotes an anti-corruption strategy in the final phase of the Bangkok governor race, ignoring poll results, and highlights the return of two supporter groups backing the Democrat Party again.

On 21 June 2026, Anucha Burapachaisri, also known as James, Democrat Party candidate number 5 for Bangkok governor, together with party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva and party executives including advisor Ongart Klamphaiboon, Sakolthee Phattiyakul, Radklao Intawong Suwankhiri, and deputy leader Mekhin Iamsaard, campaigned to support Chatchanapong Kaewthong, Democrat Party councilor candidate number 2 for Bang Khen district, at Ying Charoen Market from the morning. They then moved to Muang Thong Market (Bueng Sikan) in Soi Chaeng Watthana 14 to seek votes for Ton Rangsarn Kiypat, Democrat councilor candidate number 4 for Laksi district. Afterwards, they went to Chatuchak 2 Market to support Jiratt Chaowariyarat, councilor candidate number 2 for Min Buri district. The day’s campaigning ended with support for Kasenun Ruangtab, councilor candidate number 1 for Khan Na Yao district.

“Anucha” highlights an anti-corruption strategy.

Anucha spoke about the campaign and public feedback during the final stretch, saying that besides persistent issues urgently needing solutions—such as flooding, traffic congestion, waste, and cleanliness—residents also strongly demand serious measures against corruption. They want the governor and councilors from the Democrat Party to eliminate non-transparent practices within Bangkok’s administration, especially regarding position sales and under-the-table benefits. This is to ensure Bangkok’s budget is used efficiently and without leakage. The anti-corruption policy is a direct directive from party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, who has instructed all party candidates to adhere strictly. If any irregularities or public doubts arise, officials must be able to clearly explain via party mechanisms.

Raises stakes, noting two groups returning support to the Democrat Party.

When asked about the latest opinion polls showing a lag, Anucha said he is not worried because during the campaign, residents have continued to offer encouragement and support. He noted positive signals from two main groups: former party supporters who previously voted for other candidates or parties but are now returning to support the Democrat Party after seeing its determination, and undecided voters who are now making clearer decisions based on the party’s serious policies and future vision.

Concern over old buildings in the Mo Mi area.

Anucha also mentioned inspecting an accident site in Samphanthawong district on the evening of 20 June. He checked the scene to see if any additional assistance could be coordinated. He had the chance to speak with the Bangkok governor’s chief of staff, the Samphanthawong district director, and rescue units who had cut electricity to prevent further harm to nearby residents and moved electrical poles to allow inspection. The building itself did not collapse; rather, a front balcony fell, causing injuries and a fatality. The deceased had returned to prepare to close a shop. Authorities need to assess the building’s structural integrity, as nearby buildings appear similarly constructed.

“Mark” urges Bangkok residents to think carefully before voting.

Meanwhile, Abhisit Vejjajiva, Democrat Party leader, commented on the final campaign phase for the Bangkok governor election, urging residents to review the city’s management over the past four years and consider whether it has met their satisfaction. He pointed out that even during the one-month campaign, recurring problems such as flooding, building collapses, and road subsidence persist, indicating many unresolved tasks. Beyond enhancing transparency in Bangkok’s procurement processes—which would facilitate business and improve residents’ quality of life—the city needs leadership willing to invest decisively in major infrastructure projects, including integrated flood management, comprehensive waste management, and a more convenient mass transit system.

“Bangkok can be much more than it is now. Promoting it as an AI Hub is achievable. We do not want Bangkok to be merely a tourist city filled with cannabis shops or to neglect the issue of illegal foreign businesses. These major problems are what we intend to tackle and to guide the city’s future direction,” said Abhisit. Abhisit added further comments.
