Pop Party Battles Blue Regime, Warns Nikorn Against Twisting Constitutional Courts Intent

Natthapong Ruangpanyawut affirmed that the Pop Party is not waging war against any political party but against the 'blue regime.' He cautioned Nikorn not to distort the Constitutional Court's intent and proposed delaying constitutional amendments to reconsider the constitution-drafting assembly's origins, emphasizing closer ties to the people.

At 13:10 on 21 June 2026 GMT+7. Mr. Natthapong Ruangpanyawut, List MP and leader of the Pop Party (Pop). He gave an interview at the parliament regarding observations on the current political situation described as a war between the blue camp and the orange camp, stating: He said that neither he nor the Pop Party targets any political party in this conflict, but rather the politics of the blue regime, which he has previously described as larger than the Bhumjaithai Party. This regime encompasses independent organizations, other state agencies, and political-business enterprises related to state concession contractors, all serving as pillars supporting the blue regime.

Ultimately, this relates to the supreme rules—the constitution. Following the Constitutional Court judges' opinion clarifying whether the constitution drafters mentioned in past rulings refer to the individual writers or the drafting committee, it was concluded that the constitution-drafting assembly (CDA) may be directly elected by the people. Although the Pop Party has yet to reach a resolution in the parliamentary meeting, he personally expressed readiness to revise and reconsider the draft to ensure the CDA’s origins are more directly connected to the people.

"I urge all political parties that claim to want a new constitution closely linked to the people, especially after the Constitutional Court judges' opinion, to reconsider the CDA’s origins so that members come from direct elections by the public. Regarding the upcoming joint parliamentary session to consider the constitutional amendment draft, I believe the process can be postponed. The public can wait if it means securing a better constitution."

When asked about Mr. Nikorn Jamnong, List MP of the Bhumjaithai Party, who stated that the Constitutional Court judges’ opinion is not a binding ruling and cannot be used, and whether Bhumjaithai prefers a CDA chosen directly by parliament, Natthapong replied that this question should be directed back to Nikorn: whether the person who wrote the ruling is indeed a judge. Therefore, the judges' comments represent the ruling’s intent. He does not want Nikorn or other political parties to twist this point, as he believes the Constitutional Court judges’ opinion is quite clear.

Regarding whether the Pop Party will engage with senators to discuss delaying the constitutional amendment consideration, Natthapong said: "If senators genuinely act as representatives of the people and are not dominated by any political group’s influence, I believe they will see the possibility of postponing the constitutional drafting process until a new draft is developed as the judges suggested, improving the CDA’s direct ties to the people."

Natthapong further stated that if the process continues as it is, with political parties in the lower house and senators in the upper house moving in the same direction and insisting on advancing a constitution draft that is not what the people want, then he believes the process has been flawed from the start.
