The Prime Minister criticized the Prachachon Party for assuming that the DSI is targeting Phawut in the Forex share scam case as retaliation for his investigation of the TH-AI Passport, saying if that were true, many others would have been affected already.
On 22 June, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, spoke about the Prachachon Party's attempt to politicize the issue after prosecutors decided not to indict a former party MP in a drug case, coinciding with the DSI naming Mr. Phawut Pongwitthayaphanu, a party-list MP from the Prachachon Party, as possibly connected to the Forex pyramid scheme case, which the party regards as political harassment.
Mr. Anutin immediately responded to the accusations, saying, "They seem to be imagining things. If I were truly harassing anyone, many people would have been targeted by now. I have never contemplated such malicious acts." When asked about the opposition's view that this is retaliation because Mr. Phawut had previously exposed and thoroughly investigated the TH-AI Passport project, the Prime Minister said, "Today, we won’t engage in blaming or pointing fingers because everything is governed by legal procedures. The accused have the responsibility to present evidence to counter the allegations. If the evidence is solid and clears them of wrongdoing, no one can do anything against them."
"I have other tasks that I enjoy and believe benefit the country and the people much more than dealing with such issues. If I say more, journalists might write it down again," Mr. Anutin said. When pressed on whether this was political discrediting, he retorted, "I don’t engage in such nonsense." If anyone breaks the law, officials including the military, police, DSI, Narcotics Control Board, and Anti-Money Laundering Office oversee the matter. The Prime Minister cannot order anyone to harass others in these cases. Everything must proceed according to the facts."
