The Army confirms it adheres to the agreement outlined in the joint statement, continuing to protect sovereignty. It assesses the border situation as still manageable and is fully committed to caring for the people.
On 22 Jun 2026, Major General Winthai Suwaree, Army spokesperson, provided an update on the Thai-Cambodian border situation and the Army’s approach to reassure the public of Thailand’s firm stance. The Army affirms its unwavering commitment to the agreement from the GBC meeting on 27 Dec 2025 as the main operational framework. It maintains full readiness to defend sovereignty while ensuring the safety and normal daily life of residents in the area. All operations are conducted carefully to avoid conditions that could disadvantage Thailand on the international stage.
Regarding the overall current situation, although some confrontations still occur in sensitive operational areas—such as protests near Thai barriers that have led to occasional verbal clashes between forces—the overall situation remains nonviolent without use of force. The local coordination units continue to negotiate to resolve issues and foster mutual understanding, despite some provocations occurring both along the border and on social media.
In terms of procedures, the Army strictly follows the Commander-in-Chief's policies, focusing on heightened surveillance, patrol security, strengthening strongholds, improving patrol routes and supply systems, and accelerating clearance of landmines along the border. The highest priority is the safety of civilians and personnel. Should any immediate issues arise, Thailand will prioritize peaceful and bilateral negotiation methods. Military force will be used only as necessary under the Rules of Engagement (ROE) and appropriate international frameworks.
From a military assessment perspective, verbal skirmishes at the individual level may continue as Thailand must enhance security measures in its jurisdiction to protect civilians. However, there is currently no deep indication of intent to use armed force to resolve conflicts. Nonetheless, the Army remains vigilant and ready to respond to any situation. On the diplomatic front, efforts continue under government policy within the joint statement framework at both local and regional levels, prepared to activate cooperative mechanisms when conditions allow.
Additionally, the Army has instructed operational units in the area to exercise increased caution against provocations that could escalate into violence and be misrepresented as Thai violations of the ceasefire agreement. Troops are also warned to be wary of being recorded or having information spread that could create a negative image, potentially undermining Thailand’s credibility domestically and internationally.
The Army urges the public to have confidence that all personnel perform their duties with patience and restraint, adhere strictly to protocols, remain strong, and are fully prepared to protect the nation’s highest interests to the best of their ability.
