Anutin announced the elevation of women's roles by removing obstacles for Thai women, highlighting three strategies: supporting pregnancy rights, designing well-lit cities, and ending domestic violence.
On 22 June 2026 at IMPACT Forum, Muang Thong Thani, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, accompanied by his wife, presided over the opening ceremony of the W-Unity project: Uniting Women's Power for Development, and delivered a policy speech titled "Government Direction to Elevate Women's Roles for Sustainable National Development."
Prime Minister Anutin stated that women make up half of Thailand's population, especially the working-age group who are key drivers of development. However, women still face three major concerns: whether having children will disrupt their careers, whether they can live safely in cities, and whether the state provides adequate support against domestic violence. Without satisfactory answers to these questions, obstacles remain that limit women's opportunities and the country's potential. Elevating women's roles is therefore not only about women but about Thailand's future, because when women advance, the country advances as well.
The Prime Minister added that the government has set a systematic approach to enhance women's roles and quality of life based on three pillars: supporting pregnancy and child-rearing to reduce women's burdens and develop a quality population for the future runway. Recently, a law was enacted allowing spouses or fathers to take 15 days leave to assist with newborn care. Designing friendly and safe cities through Universal Design involves restructuring urban areas to accommodate women's lifestyles, increasing lighting, ensuring safe walkways, and improving access to public transport. Ending domestic violence includes strengthening protection systems to be more accessible and changing societal attitudes to recognize domestic violence not as a private matter but as a public issue requiring state intervention.
Anutin further stated that the government is ready to incorporate all proposals from today's workshop into policy improvements to break down barriers related to "gender" that block opportunities, security, and safety in life. He affirmed the government will act decisively and expedite tangible results as soon as possible.
