Regarding the situation in Myanmar, he stated that if refugees flee hardship seeking refuge, Thailand is ready to assist on humanitarian grounds.
On 23 June 2026, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, addressed the Thai-Cambodian border situation, stating it remains normal and that there is no need for concern, especially regarding border security or fears of threats or attacks. He affirmed that such concerns are unfounded.
Regarding the F-16 training flights, the Prime Minister said he had been informed these are part of regular scheduled exercises. He reminded that Thailand has never engaged in provocative behavior, as it is not in the country's nature. He assured the public to remain calm regardless of any external claims, emphasizing that the Thai military maintains its position without threatening or provoking others and does not initiate conflict.
On whether the current situation allows progress in compulsory dispute resolution under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), the Prime Minister replied that it depends on mutual agreement. Thailand is not troubled by the issue and will proceed when the time is right.
When asked again if talks might not occur because Thailand is not troubled by the situation, the Prime Minister responded, "the choice is ours."
Regarding the claim that this issue is internal Cambodian politics using Thailand as a scapegoat for election purposes, the Prime Minister stated that while there is some truth to their situation, Thailand will not interfere in Cambodia's governance or sovereignty. Likewise, Cambodia cannot interfere in Thailand’s administration or decision-making.
Concerning Myanmar’s recent military buildup possibly aimed at attacking ethnic minorities, the Prime Minister said Thailand’s response follows humanitarian principles. If refugees flee hardship seeking refuge, Thailand will care for them, but when the time is appropriate, it will facilitate their orderly return. He confirmed there are no issues with this approach.
