Sihasak Accelerates Fact-Finding on Security Agencies Wiretapping 2,000 Southern Border Residents Phones

Sihasak is rushing to verify facts regarding reports that security agencies wiretapped phones of 2,000 residents in the southern border provinces, confirming continuous monitoring of the situation. Meanwhile, Lt. Gen. Adul is already aware of the issue.

At 12:35 PM on 23 June 2026 at Government House, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkaew, serving as chairman of the government's special delegation, and Defense Minister Lt. Gen. Adul Boonthamcharoen, also deputy chairman of the special delegation, jointly explained measures to resolve southern unrest.

Sihasak stated that they have already held one meeting and set work guidelines. A subcommittee acts as the main mechanism to engage local parties. Once information is obtained, it will be discussed by the main committee. After hearing reports from the subcommittee's talks with various agencies, the main committee will review the overall situation including security, development, dialogue, and cooperation with Malaysia. He affirmed the committee has continuously monitored the local situation.

When asked about reports that security agencies wiretapped phones of 2,000 people in the three southern border provinces, Sihasak said they must investigate the facts and that this is another important issue for discussion.

Lt. Gen. Adul added that with the increase in local incidents, security agencies in the three southern border provinces, primarily the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Front, are responsible for security, while the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre handles development. A dialogue committee also serves as a mechanism, driven by the government's special delegation. He acknowledged awareness of the problems. A subcommittee led by Gen. Natthapong Paokaeo, Deputy Chief of Staff, has already conducted one field mission and is expected to report back.
