Cabinet Acknowledges NACCs Three-Pronged Measures to Tackle Corruption in Government Welfare Gun Procurement

The Deputy Government Spokesperson revealed that the Cabinet acknowledged measures to prevent and resolve corruption in the government welfare firearm procurement project, proposing three strict control approaches and advising the Ministry of Interior to consider only what is necessary.

At 14:00 on 23 June 2026, Ms. Ploytale Lakshmisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, stated after the Cabinet meeting that the Cabinet resolved to acknowledge the report on implementation of measures to prevent and resolve corruption in the government welfare firearm procurement project, as proposed by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), as follows.

(1) When approving government agencies' projects to procure welfare firearms for officials or similar projects, approval must be given with caution, prioritizing necessity and appropriateness according to current conditions.

(2) Any extension of ongoing government welfare firearm procurement projects for officials (if any) must be strictly conducted in accordance with the law.

(3) Any relaxation of Ministry of Interior Order No. 108/2535, dated 10 February 1992, which restricts issuing licenses to individuals to order or import certain firearms, in a way that allows local registrars to permit gun shops to import handguns through the government welfare firearm procurement project channels, must be considered only as necessary and strictly follow the law.

The Ministry of Interior was assigned as the main agency to review this matter jointly with relevant agencies, such as the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Finance, Royal Thai Police, and the Office of the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission, to reach a conclusion. The Ministry of Interior must summarize the review results, actions, and overall opinions, then submit the report to the Secretariat of the Cabinet within 30 days from receiving the notification, for further Cabinet consideration.
