Democrat Party Receives Objections to the SEC-Land Bridge Draft Law

"Korn and Kadee" led representatives of the Democrat Party to receive objections to the "SEC-Land Bridge" draft law outside the Government House. They confirmed they would bring the public's concerns into the party meeting for consideration through political mechanisms.

At 13:20 on 23 June 2026, at the Phadung Krung Kasem Canal area beside the Government House, representatives of the Democrat Party (DP), led by Mr. Korn Chatikavanij, Mrs. Kadee Liao-Pairoj, Mr. Satit Wongnongtoey, and Mr. Juree Numkaew, Deputy Party Leaders, met with and received a petition from the "SEC Watch People's Network" led by Mr. Prasitchai Noonuan, the group's leader, along with citizens from several southern and eastern provinces including community leaders from Chumphon, Krabi, Ranong, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Prachinburi, and Rayong. They had camped in front of the Government House to protest the draft bill on the Southern Economic Corridor (SEC) Special Economic Zone and the Land Bridge project. The citizen representatives reiterated their opposition to the SEC draft law and Land Bridge project, which have sparked controversy over conflicts of interest, land speculation within the project, exemptions from environmental laws, allowing foreigners to build industrial factories and hold land in 14 southern provinces for up to 99 years, exemptions from community rights, and other widely criticized issues. They submitted policy demands to the Democrat Party to immediately support halting the Land Bridge project and the draft law due to concerns about impacts on local livelihoods, communities, and the environment in the South. The Democrat Party's deputy leaders received all proposals from the SEC Watch group. Mr. Korn stated that they would bring the public's concerns and information into the party meeting for consideration via political mechanisms and seek ways to drive development that sustainably meets the people's needs.
