Government Submits Two Bills to Parliament Today to Boost Court Efficiency and Enhance Consumer Protection

The government submitted two bills today to Parliament: one on court reforms and the Lemon Law, aiming to enhance court case processing efficiency to keep pace with the growing number of cases and to raise consumer protection standards in goods and services transactions.

On 24 June 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced that the government has submitted two important bills to the House of Representatives: the draft amendment to the Civil Procedure Code (no. ..) B.E. .... and the draft Judicial Service Act (no. ..) B.E. .... Minister Pradorn Prissanananukul, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, represented the Cabinet in presenting these bills to the House. Additionally, the draft Consumer Protection Against Product Defects Act B.E. ...., or Lemon Law, was presented by Minister Supamas Isarapakdi, also attached to the Prime Minister's Office.

The draft amendments to the Civil Procedure Code and the Judicial Service Act aim to improve court efficiency by speeding up case processing to meet the rising volume. They clearly define the roles and duties of court officers and upgrade them to specialized professional personnel to better support the justice system’s operations, enabling quicker public access to justice.

Meanwhile, the Lemon Law aims to elevate Thai consumer protection to international standards by clearly defining buyers' rights, sellers' duties and liabilities, and criteria for defective products—especially defects not discoverable at the time of purchase or delivery—to ensure consumers receive fair treatment and stronger safeguards in exercising their rights.

The Prime Minister's Office spokesperson said these two bills will enhance the efficiency of the justice process and raise consumer protection to reflect current conditions, making justice more accessible and faster for the public, while providing greater protection and fairness in buying goods and services.
