Chris Monitors Akong System, Plans to File Complaint with NACC on Bangkoks Subproject Fragmentation

Chris threatens to file a complaint with the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to investigate Bangkok's division of projects by district, aimed at avoiding public bidding and creating opportunities for contractors to pay kickbacks. He plans to propose a motion to reform Bangkok's administration and establish an independent anti-corruption organization in Bangkok that operates independently of the Bangkok Governor.

On 24 June 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the Parliament, Chris Potranan, party-list MP and leader of the Economic Party, gave an update on the investigation into the 'Akong system,' which involves unfair appointments and transfers, position trading, and corruption within district offices. The party continues to follow these processes through various channels and is preparing to propose a motion to study comprehensive reform of Bangkok's administration system. This includes reviewing the powers of the Bangkok Governor, resolving overlapping responsibilities with other agencies, and establishing concrete anti-corruption mechanisms. A key proposal is to set up an independent anti-corruption organization in Bangkok, responsible specifically for investigating corruption, independent of the Bangkok Governor and Permanent Secretary. This organization would have a six-year term and be selected by a committee composed of members from the Supreme Court, Administrative Court, NACC, Bangkok Council, and experts, functioning as a central body to independently audit budget use. Currently, budget allocations to district councilors are being fragmented into many small subprojects, each under 500,000 baht, to avoid bidding and allow direct appointment of contractors, which may lead to kickbacks. Several private companies awarded contracts in multiple Bangkok districts—including Bang Na, Phra Khanong, Bang Khae, Bang Sue, Chatuchak, Ratchathewi, Lat Phrao, Yannawa, Thawi Watthana, Taling Chan, and Phra Nakhon—show irregularities. He calls on former Bangkok Governor Akong and district councilors to explain their relationships with these companies and the transparency of project implementation. Information gathered from this investigation will be submitted to the NACC next week for legal action.
