Chuan urges Wang Thonglang residents to support Anucha, denouncing corruption spreading through all sectors including Senate collusion, vote-buying of MPs, and cheating in civil service exams. He guarantees Anucha is well-rounded, honest, and capable of serving effectively, said Chuan.
At 07:00 on 24 June 2026 at Saphan 2 Market in Wang Thonglang district, Bangkok, Anucha Burapachaisri, the Democrat Party candidate for Bangkok governor (candidate number 5), joined former Prime Minister and former House Speaker Chuan Leekpai, a Democrat Party list MP, and party advisor Ong-art Klamphaiboon for a campaign visit. They also supported Anurak Lertwattanaipaiwan, Democrat candidate for Wang Thonglang district council (candidate number 5). Market vendors and shoppers greeted them warmly, taking photos and offering encouragement.
Condemning corruption spreading across all sectors.
Chuan said he came to promote the party's policy based on honest politics, aligning with King Rama IX’s royal guidance to promote good people to govern the country. Although 24 June marks the 94th anniversary of Thailand’s change of government system, corruption remains widespread in every organization—from vote-buying during MP elections to officials seeking personal gain once in power, such as hoarding oil to recover costs. Some senators have been accused of collusion and exchanging favors, lacking true independence as they follow party or superior orders. Even prime ministers and senior politicians have faced allegations of misconduct and contradictory witness testimonies. Today, major news broke about forged answer sheets in local civil service entrance exams.
“How can such people govern honestly if they begin with improper methods? Politicians elected through vote-buying cannot claim ‘I don’t cheat… that doesn’t happen.’ Similarly, civil servants who buy their positions will find it difficult to administer the country with integrity,” Chuan said. .
Vouching for Anucha’s integrity and capability.
Chuan continued that with his long experience as Democrat Party leader for many terms, 28 terms as an MP, and 57 years in politics, he knows what is good and bad. He came to support Anucha today because he knows him well and firmly believes he is a good and honest person. Although current polls may not show a strong lead, Chuan does not want good people to be criticized or isolated in politics, so he decided to campaign actively in the final stretch. He cited the Democrat Party’s past achievements in decentralization, mostly during its time in government. Today, decentralization must include placing good people in local roles so they can serve the public. He urged voters to carefully study all parties before voting on 28 June to reduce mistakes in choosing city administrators.
James emphasizes commitment to honest, transparent politics.
Anucha expressed gratitude to Chuan Leekpai for campaigning on his behalf. Under the leadership of party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, the Democrat Party is committed to promoting honest politics from the national to local levels, including both the governor and council candidates. If elected, Anucha pledged to govern with honesty and integrity, free from corruption, and open to public scrutiny on all matters. The party has strict internal oversight. If the party wins many council seats, it will promptly implement its five main policy areas, especially reforming Bangkok’s budget system to make it transparent and fully accountable from day one.
