Ice Rakchanok Unafraid of Father Chaichanok, Urges New Generation to Stand Firm Against Those Shielding Officials’ Children

Rakchanok Srinok said she is not afraid of her father, Chaichanok Chidchob. She revealed that if anything happens to her, she wants to see a new generation brave enough to stand up for the people's interests and to criticize those who only seek to protect officials’ children.

24 Jun 2026 GMT+7 Ms. Rakchanok Srinok a party-list Member of Parliament (MP) for the People’s Party (PPP) and chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Budget Preparation and Monitoring, spoke at the parliament regarding the absence of the TH-AI Passport project from the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society in the draft budget bill for fiscal year 2027. She thanked the Budget Bureau for cutting this project, which requested 900 million baht, noting that the entire project was removed, marking a positive sign.

When asked if she was concerned that phase 2 might hide similar issues as phase 1 despite the setback, Ms. Rakchanok said she was very worried and that the situation must be closely monitored to see if the project continues. She also mentioned phase 1, worth 1.6 billion baht, is still ongoing and must be stopped. She urged Chaichanok Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, to be braver and take responsibility instead of allowing civil servants to act as scapegoats and the Bhumjaithai Party to come out defending the project. She warned against acting in ways that make people see them as unbreakable and said if everyone feared being exposed, sued, or feared Chaichanok’s influence, then nothing would get done.

“In this lifetime and for this country, I believe the opposition, the People’s Party, has a duty to act straightforwardly. And I hope that one day, if any of us MPs who speak on this matter—or myself—were to face consequences, I want new, brave generations to emerge and stand firm for the benefit of the people.”

Regarding government accusations that the opposition’s criticism of the TH-AI Passport project stems from their affiliated companies not receiving contracts, Ms. Rakchanok responded that such claims are laughable. She understood that those making these statements include the chair of the Police Commission from the Bhumjaithai Party. She stressed that they are not defending any particular company’s interests as the government is, but rather protecting the interests of all companies that would benefit from the funds to develop AI and technology industries meant for everyone.

. . . Ms. Rakchanok added that before criticizing, one should compose oneself and base statements on facts. If not, it seems they only protect officials’ children, perform for their superiors, or compete by making reckless statements and self-destructive media appearances to gain recognition. She said this behavior might bring shame before the public and urged them not to act this way because the public pays them to represent their interests, not to serve any political power group.
