Deputy PM Pakorn Reveals Proposal to Separate Ministry of Tourism from Sports, to Present to Cabinet by August, Expected to Enact This Year

Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilprapunt revealed plans to propose legislation separating the Ministry of Tourism from the Ministry of Sports to the Cabinet by August. The tourism responsibilities will be transferred to the Ministry of Culture, with the law expected to be enacted within this year.

On 25 June 2026 at the Government House, Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilprapunt, overseeing the Office of the Public Sector Development Commission (OPDC), reported progress on the draft legislation to separate the Ministry of Tourism from the Ministry of Sports by merging tourism duties with the Ministry of Culture. The draft bill is complete and on 24 June, the OPDC submitted it to the Secretariat of the Cabinet (SC) to circulate for feedback from two relevant agencies. It is expected to take no more than one month before the bill is presented to the Cabinet meeting in July or August. Following this, it will be submitted for parliamentary consideration. If the timeline proceeds as planned, the law is anticipated to be enacted within 2026. While drafting the law is not difficult, careful attention is required in dividing the organizational structure and personnel allocation across different regions, so the process must be handled meticulously.
