Former Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai visited Ruam Chok Market in Lat Phrao district to campaign in support of Anucha during the final stretch, calling for solutions to street vendor bribery and foreign workers taking over jobs, emphasizing honest politics to help the country overcome crises.
On 25 June 2026, Anucha Burapachaisri, Democrat Party candidate number 5 for Bangkok governor, accompanied by former Prime Minister and Democrat Party advisor Chuan Leekpai, party chief advisor Ong-art Klamphaiboon, former Bangkok MP candidate Siripha Intawichian, former Bangkok MP candidate Phanupong Laksanavisit, and Lat Phrao district council candidate number 3 Attaran Manupeerapan, visited the morning market at Ruam Chok in Lat Phrao to meet vendors and listen to their livelihood concerns.
During today's visit, longstanding street vendors in this community market, which has existed for over 40 years, complained to Anucha and the Democrat Party team about facing eviction pressures over the past 3-4 years. They reported that to continue selling, they must pay a monthly fee of 5,000 baht, which has become a cost burden that cuts into the profits of small-scale vendors.
Vendors also questioned to whom this money is paid and who orders the collection, as inquiries to the district office received no clear answers. Additionally, they reported issues with foreign nationals taking over selling spaces by impersonating Thai citizens. The vendors insisted they conduct their business honestly, cleaning the streets after selling as if caring for their own homes, contrary to concerns that they cause untidiness, as they want the area to remain a community charm.
Anucha responded to questions about resolving the street vendor issue by proposing a decisive solution. He suggested the district office conduct a thorough 'X-ray' inspection of each route to set clear standards for sidewalk widths and designate specific zones for vending. He also proposed marking lines and systematically registering vendors.
"We will use technology to verify that those authorized to sell are genuine, not subleasing or foreigners impersonating Thais, which will help reduce corruption among officials," he said.
On this matter, Chuan spoke about the current political situation, stating that the Democrat Party has always upheld 'honest politics' because corrupt politics cause chain reactions—from unfair civil servant appointments to interference in organizations for personal gain.
Chuan emphasized that only honest politics can help the country overcome crises, urging citizens to choose candidates they truly believe to be good and capable. He reiterated that if Bangkok residents elect Anucha, he will work transparently, honestly, and be accountable.
Regarding the Democrat Party's major rally, Anucha revealed it will be held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center on Friday, 26 June, starting at 17:00. Party leaders and key figures will speak. He affirmed that in this final phase, the party is campaigning vigorously for the governor and all 50 district council candidates, presenting a vision of hope, opportunity, and the future of Bangkok over the next four years.
"Support is steadily increasing as people begin to see tangible policies. We will not just solve old problems stuck in place; we will offer hope, opportunities, and a future for Bangkok so that residents can be confident this city will improve," he said.
