Siripong explains the budget transfer act aimed at resolving the national crisis, emphasizing the Prime Minister’s commitment to using every baht efficiently to address the public’s problems.
On 25 Jun 2026 GMT+7, Deputy Minister of Transport Siripong Angkasungkati explained during the consideration of the budget transfer bill, proposed by the Cabinet to the House of Representatives, about expediting budget disbursement within the Ministry of Transport. He addressed members’ observations regarding the efficiency of large versus small budget transfers. From the administration’s perspective, budget review involves multiple layers of scrutiny, reflecting the hopes of the public. He believes many MPs understand that some roads have taken a lifetime to receive funding, with budgets cut or shelved. The Ministry of Transport views budget transfers as beneficial for accelerating disbursement and eliminating unnecessary projects, enabling the government to address issues appropriately.
Regarding concerns that the transferred budget might be converted to fund the Orange Line metro project, Siripong denied this, stating it is untrue. This budget transfer is intended solely to help the government resolve the national crisis. Importantly, the Ministry of Transport can obtain funding from other sources to carry out this project, so it will not affect the current budget transfer.
He also confirmed that the Ministry of Transport will not allocate budget for constructing new buildings. The Prime Minister’s policy prohibits any agency from building new structures, focusing instead on management or leasing alternatives. The Prime Minister is determined to use every baht efficiently to address the public’s issues, ensuring the budget is not wasted on unnecessary items.
