Government Invites Thais to Help Design New National Education Act, Online Public Consultation on 4 July

The government invites students, teachers, education personnel, and the general public to submit their opinions on the draft new National Education Act through an online public forum on 4 July, to help set the future direction of education in Thailand.

On 27 June 2026, Second Lieutenant Phatdarasmi Thongsaluyak, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, announced that the Ministry of Education, through the Office of the Education Council Secretariat, in collaboration with the Consumer Organizations Council, is accepting registrations for participants in a public forum to provide feedback on the draft new National Education Act. The forum will gather opinions on the draft law's 10 key principles, which will serve as the main framework for guiding Thailand's education in the long term.

The Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office stated that currently Thailand still uses the National Education Act B.E. 2542 (1999) as its primary education law, despite significant changes in the global context and learning methods. Previous efforts to draft a new act have not succeeded due to concerns about insufficient public participation.

Therefore, the government and the Ministry of Education are moving forward with drafting the new National Education Act based on the principle of inclusiveness, continuously gathering feedback from all sectors, and have established a special subcommittee to formally draft the new act before submitting it for parliamentary review.

"The opinions submitted by the public at this stage will be used as a framework to develop the details of each article of the law. This is an important opportunity for the public to help shape the direction of Thai education from the outset, ensuring the new act aligns with societal needs and addresses the requirements of future learners," he said.

The public consultation forum will be held on Saturday, 4 July 2026, via Zoom Meeting, divided into two sessions: a morning session from 09:00 to 12:00 for student representatives from all regions, and an afternoon session from 13:00 to 16:00 for teachers, education personnel, local government representatives, and interested members of the public.

The government invites everyone to share their opinions, suggestions, and perspectives on the draft law's 10 key principles to jointly design an education system that responds to global changes and the needs of future learners.
